State Of The Arts (SOTA) is an open platform reimagining the art world today. We belief, the transition of an art world towards more fair practice can also serve as a catalyst for genuine change in society at large.

In 2019 SOTA published the first Fair Arts Almanac. The content of the book was generated during a week long summer camp in 2018 with about 70 contributors. The compilation of various articles in this first edition was deliberately open for debate and associative, with a lot of contradictions, loose ends and inconsistencies.

In 2021, SOTA will set out a series of daylong encounters, organized each last Saturday of the month on another location in Belgium and about a different topic – or question that lives within the art world these days. These issues are distributed over the calendar of the full year, taking the sensibilities of the various seasons into account.

May is the month of the full growth and resurrection. How artists address their co- responsibility  in gentrification processes? Some set up co-housing cooperatives, some occupy temporary spaces in smart cities and some want permanent rental contracts.

State Of The Arts (SOTA) is een open platform dat de hedendaagse kunstwereld opnieuw wil verbeelden. Wij geloven dat de transitie van de kunstwereld naar een meer rechtvaardige praktijk ook kan dienen als een katalysator voor echte verandering in de bredere samenleving.

In 2019 publiceerde SOTA de eerste Fair Arts Almanac. De inhoud van het boek werd ontwikkeld tijdens een zomerkamp in 2018 waarin ongeveer 70 medewerkers actief waren. De samenstelling van diverse artikelen in deze eerste editie was bewust opengesteld voor debat en associatief samengesteld, met veel tegenstrijdigheden, losse eindjes en botsingen die aanleiding gaven tot discussie.

In 2021 zal SOTA een reeks ontmoetingen organiseren, die elke laatste zaterdag van de maand plaatsvinden op een andere locatie in België en steeds een ander onderwerp of vraag aanvatten, die vandaag de dag binnen de kunstwereld leeft. Deze thema’s worden verdeeld over de kalender van het hele jaar, rekening houdend met de gevoeligheden van de verschillende seizoenen.

Mei is de maand van de volledige groei en opstanding. Hoe gaan kunstenaars om met hun medeverantwoordelijkheid in gentrificatieprocessen? Sommige richten co-huisvestingscoöperaties op, sommige bezetten tijdelijke ruimtes in steden en sommige willen vaste huurcontracten om eindelijk wortels te kunnen slaan.
